The choice of bronze as the material for the case is a tribute to Darwin's famous brig, the HMS Beagle, who among the various expeditions also brought the scholar to the Galapagos islands. At that time, bronze, thanks to its ability to resist corrosion, was used among other things for portholes, metal seals for ships and nautical instruments. Over time, and depending on use, this material takes on a slight patina that darkens its color, giving the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition "Expedition Charles Darwin" a unique and unmistakable character. The bronze color was also chosen for the luminescent mass that covers the hands, indexes and the 15 minute scale of the internal rotating bezel. Equipped with IWC-manufactured movement, caliber 89365, rubber-coated buttons, SafeDive system and water resistance up to 30 bar, this special edition is also perfectly suitable for modern land and underwater expeditions. The engraving on the case back reproduces an intense portrait of Charles Darwin, whose theory of evolution forever changed the way of thinking of men.
